A Touring Chinese & ESEA Performance Festival

Touring UK 2022

Times have been fraught and there are uncertainty and clashes between different groups and cultures in the UK - So we are hosting a Chinese and ESEA* Performance Festival at various location in England to celebrate our cultural heritage, and encourage understanding and bring people together through entertainment and joy!

 

Our programme at SOUTHAMPTON and NEWCASTLE Festivals are to be announced soon.

Dragonboat Festival - Southampton 2022

 

 10-12 June 2022 @ Guildhall Square, Above Bar St, Southampton SO14 7DU

Red Dragonfly is partnering with the Chinese Association of Southampton (CAS) on this festival. 

 

Come join us in a celebration of Chinese Arts and Culture with FREE events, performances and activities throughout at pop-up Rotunda Theatre in Guildhall Square.

Friday 10 June - Launch Gala from 6pm - FREE admission at Guildhall Square

6pm - Dragonboat Dance

6:15pm - Speeches by VIPs

6:30pm - Chinese GuZheng music performance by Wang Jingyi & Joylin Chang

6:45pm - Cantonese Golden Oldies by Chinese Association of Southampton

7pm - Sneak peek of The Ballad of Mulan by Red Dragonfly Productions

7:05pm - Line Dancing by Chinese Association of Southampton

Saturday 11 June - FREE admission* 12pm to 5pm at Guildhall Square

12pm - Dragonboat Dance

12:30pm - Martial Arts Display

1:15pm - Cantonese Golden Oldies by Chinese Association of Southampton

2pm - Chinese musical instruments performance (Chinese Flute, GuQin & GuZheng)

3pm - South Asian dance and songs by Arts Asia

3:30pm-4:30pm - Play reading performance of a new play 'What's Best for Jada' by new British-Chinese playwright Alex Blanc at MAST Studios Homegrown Performance.

4:30pm - Fan Dancing and Tai Chi demonstrations

1pm - Chinese Arts Southampton performance

1:30pm - Bollywood Beats by ESAC

2pm - Chinese and Indian Dances by Portsmouth Chinese Association and ESAC

3:30pm - A special theatre performance of ‘The Ballad of Mulan’, based on the legendary Chinese warrior who inspired Disney’s films at MAST Mayflower Studios. Tickets available here.

4:50pm - Line Dancing by Chinese Association of Southampton

*Free Admission to all events except for 'The Ballad of Mulan' at MAST Studios

And workshops and activities by the Chinese Association of Southampton.

Chinese Performance Festival - Newcastle

 

6-9 October 2022 @ Newcastle University

Red Dragonfly is partnering with the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University on this festival.

We are having an Performance Open Call to join our festival programme! We want this festival to be a showcase for the variety of Chinese and ESEA artforms and present the talents and skills from Chinese and ESEA artists and community!

We welcome submissions from all levels:

  • Professional Organisations and Creatives,

  • Amateur Groups and Individuals,

  • Local Communities, Universities, Schools and Students

Whether you are of Chinese or ESEA heritage, or your performance is inspired by Chinese and ESEA cultures/elements, we want to hear from you! Submit your interest here.
